Description: Swell House explores the architecture of additions with a focus on the act of joining the old and the new. The existing house structure consists of two primary structural systems: the vertical structure (stemming from the foundations and holding the walls) and the triangulated structure (holding the pitched roof). The extended volume hovers above the existing vertical structure leaving the footprint and foundation intact. The pitched roof structure absorbs the mutation caused by the extension. The joint between the old and the new is not only indicated on the exterior volumes but is also registered in the interior of the house.
